Project Description

Corradino serves as the coordinating consultant to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) on the Detroit Intermodal Freight Terminal Project (DIFT). The project's goal is to strengthen the economic security of Michigan by improving freight transportation at a consolidated terminal in Southwest Detroit. The project involves all four Class I railroads operating in Michigan (CSX, Norfolk Southern, Canadian National, and Canadian Pacific) in the $650 million improvement program. Up to 50 percent of the cost of the rail improvements will be covered by the railroads, and the rest by government.

The project is expected to generate approximately 4,500 jobs state-wide, including 2,360 Jobs In the Detroit area. About 3,100 person-years of employment will be generated, with construction peaking at 620 jobs.
